review 1: I'm not enjoying this series as much as I did the spinoff (Lords of the Var) and I think a lot of it has to do with the timeline of the books. So the series is written on a concurrent timeline which means that everything is really happening at the same time. For the story in each book this means that you'll see certain scenes again, have some plots overlap, and can see a scene from a few different points of view. I think that this is a good idea, and it can be interesting to see one scene from a different characters eyes or finally know what that other character was thinking at a particular moment. However, there have also been a few scenes that have been repeated in each book. I think some of them are almost identical and it's becoming a bit repetitive. I understand the t... moreimeline is happening at the same time and many of the characters met previously (on the galaxy ship for example, or the beginning of the bridal march) but do we really need to witness the same scene in each book? It's just becoming tedious. It's not enough of an issue to stop me from continuing the series, but I didn't notice it as much in her Lords of the Var series. Perhaps because this one has more books in it that I'm noticing more similarities between them? Who knows? I'll continue to read because I want to know what happens with the rest of the family.
review 2: The Dragon Lords series is an entertaining escape to another world with Dragon shifters as the main supernatural characters, along with their reluctant brides - despite the fact that each of their brides came to them via a cargo ship called Galaxy Brides.I was quite happy to see that Michelle Pillow can write this genre and write it well. This turned out to be my favorite of the first four I read. Prince Zoran and Pia are well written and I felt an immediate affinity with Pia. Despite the Galaxy Brides "fixing" her scars and damaged face/body, Pia still sees herself as ugly and disfigured no matter what the reflective image shows her. So much so that every time Zoran says she's beautiful, anger flairs. He soon realizes that simply telling her will not do. Worth noting is that Ms. Pillow's timeline for the first several books in this series is to have them runs simultaneously so while understandable and void of any confusion, the reader receives moments of deja vu in the series as some re-telling from previous stories is intermingled in the current one. But it doesn't necessarily take away from the overall enjoyment of the book.I recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy romance (dragons) with a touch of science fiction thrown in. less
