review 1: I don't usually read comic books or graphic novels or anything like that. This was recommended to me by my neighbor, after I revealed that I like the Harry Potter. I didn't read it for the longest time, but when I did, I was very pleasantly surprised. Lots of obvious riffs on the Harry Potter, but that's part of the whole scheme. What a really clever idea, that stories are tools of manipulation and also that the authors are being manipulated to tell stories in a certain way. It's very smart, very creative, lots of great artwork. It took me a while to figure out what was going on at first, and there were a couple other moments when I couldn't quite absorb who was where, but in spite of those blips, it was an overall great experience. As soon as I finished it, I picked up ... morevolume 2.
review 2: The hype monster got me again. I think I would have loved this if I hadn't heard everyone talking about how awesome it was, and how it's one of the best graphic novels they've ever read. Due to that, I had very high expectations. Unwritten just didn't meet those expectations. For the first half of the book, I was very bored. When things finally got interesting towards the end, it cut off to a side story. That just left me bored again, and confused even though it related to the main story. Not sure if I'm going to continue with this series, or if I even care enough to. For those that have read the second volume, does it get better? less

This was fun. With a pretty perfect cliff hanger. And the concept is really exciting.
why aren't people reading this series?! too good but too overlooked.
This is, by far, the best comic i've ever read.
