review 1: Somehow simultaneously unbelievably boring and entirely erratic. I fell in love with this "The third, known as Countess Ricotta ‘because she’s clumsy — she’s got ricotta hands — and because everything about the real world hurts her weak heart, which is also made of ricotta’" and perhaps the concept of such a character with such a fantastic title raised my expectations too high. But the book fell so far short of these expectations that it's only redeeming feature was it's brevity. Highly recommended if you love detailed paragraphs about food and antique crockery.

... moreometimes the omniscient narration makes it hard to relate to them personally. Perhaps because of this I couldn't help but feel a little hollow on completion of the book, although I wondered if this had more to do with some important cultural characteristic that was lost in translation. Or possibly because it was only a short read that leaves you to contemplate what became of them all. I won a copy of this through Goodreads and was not disappointed. less
