review 2: The Europa editions are a godsend to those
... moreof us interested in contemporary European literature, and this first novel by the Sardinian writer Milena Agus fully deserves publication in the series. An unnamed narrator tells the story of her eccentric grandmother's search for love. At the heart of the novel there is the mystery of the person known simply as "the Veteran," with whom the narrator's grandmother may or may not have had an affair. The novel raises the question of how much we can ever trust the story of another, particularly when that story concerns love and sex. less

Too explicit for my taste, so I set it aside half-way through.
