review 1: Loved this book, I like romances where we get the heros and heroines inner thoughts. Friends to lovers book, I like the author's writing style and am looking forward to reading more of her work.Only gripe with this story is how quickly the hero changes his mind at the end, he stuck to his guns the whole way through and then suddenly changes his mind and wants a full-on relationship. Felt a tad rushed.
review 2: Nate needs to keep the press away from a little secret because he feels he needs to protect those involved – not sure why but perhaps one can’t protect themselves and he’s just a nice guy. He has a rotten rep, but he spots goody-goody Payton at a wedding and decides that he will use her to divert the press’ attention and give them something el
... morese to talk about. It all works great. However, Nate KNEW that Payton really was a goody-goody despite her desire to walk on the wild side but it’s all about his needs. Payton has longed for Nate for YEARS! She had a crush on him when he seemed to be BFF w/ her snobby older brother and the fact that he might want to hang w/ her now….it’s that bag of chips that’s all that. She couldn’t admire him from afar while w/ her brother anymore because they had had a falling out, but Payton will take whatever Nate is willing to offer her now!We learn a bit as to why Nate and Payton’s brother no longer hung out, but I’m not sure that Payton ever discovered that. I was REALLY looking forward to a confrontation w/ that snob and Nate, but alas it was a vain hope. The story about the fallout b/w Nate and snob was probably used to show where Nate was starting to go – or at least that is how I chose to see it made it more romantic for me. LOL! I did like that Payton had decided to start pleasing herself and not be so concerned about others as this story opened up. Even though her new path was hard for her, she still persevered on it. Nate proved that he is ultimately a nice guy w/ a shallow rep, but when push comes to shove he comes through in the end. I loved LOVED that she basically trick questioned him before revealing a little nugget to him. She knew then if he offered forever it was only because he was being a stand-up guy, not because he thought they had more. He caught on to her trap question AFTER she still refused him and isn’t happy. However, Nate will still try to rope her into what he wants. Payton is no dummy as she catches on to his moves and tries to play his game too. He knew she couldn’t leave her heart out of the bedroom, yet the minute she does….he can’t handle it!! Perhaps that’s why so many of these guys whip out the wick? She knows he is playing her and he is very ruthless at his games, so when he makes his change is it real or another attempt at a game for him? That made me think, but in the end he still wanted her and was willing to accept her on her terms as she had decided she would take him….on his terms. He had to open up more and show her w/ actions that she was getting what she wanted and in the end, he also got what he wanted. The best type of compromise. less
