review 1: Kate annoyed me so.much. I can't even begin to tell you HOW MUCH- OMG. I understand the whole point..the whole "your truth is not the same as my truth and that's okay" thing..but I feel like the Emily in this story cause all I could think was omg you judgemental lil' biiiiiiii***%#>! ... Again- I get it, okay? I know that there are probably many young adults confused about God and religion and whether it's okay to be around other people who don't believe in God and religion- see I used to be the person who rolled my eyes at people like this. This book gave me some sort of perspective (nothing really new or anything but something). That doesn't stop me from not liking Kate though. The thing is if she were a real person it might be different but here with all her walking, ta... morelking contradictions laid out for me- as a character, no I definitely do not like her. I very very much preferred Parker whose "relationship with God is between her and Him". Then again one could argue that Kate's just an unexposed, immature child who did not go through what Parker went through to have come to the same conclusion on her own. Or one could argue that I may be a close minded, condescending pig for saying any of this. Hey, Kate's allowed her beliefs and I'm allowed mine. There we go. That's why this book got 3 stars.
review 2: I didn't even finish the book. only in the first few chapters of the book, I already hated it. I found it very prejudice and offensive to those reading it who have made the same decisions as those in the book. I think Kate is indeed judgemental. as they say, "9+3=9, but so does 5+4. Theres always more than one way. everyone has their own way of thinking, don't judge their opinion." and that's exactly what she is doing. I thought it was selfish what she did to Emily and Parker, avoiding them because they've made mistakes. well everyone makes mistakes. Just because they don't live the same way you do, doesn't give you the right to judge them. they have control of their own decisions, and if something goes wrong, its their fault, but that's what life's for-learning from your mistakes. I mean, I believe in god and everything, but I hate it when people pull the god shtick. less
