The Earl and The Fairy
review 1: This concludes the volume 1-2 story arc of I assume the first adventure of Edgar and Lydia. It seems like a novel that was made into a manga. In that way this volume is very bizarre. At the same time I love Edgar and Lydia and how they were developed as a sort of long of the night and her the queen of light. I didn't particularly love the loss of the servant or the use of the father. Like I said they were rather used like from a novel that a manga. We were presented with lots of questions for coming volumes and I look forward to reading more. The art of breathtaking, of course, because that's how I like my manga - with excellent art. Really the art was the best element of the manage, followed quickly by characterization. All the main characters were fascinating enough for m... moree to want to read more. this is the main reason I give the volume 4 stars as they were good enough to read about with even the problems I mention below.I enjoyed how Lydia decided to solve Edgar's problem but I did find her believing Ermine rather stupid as Ermine's loyalty was in question. The villains were very cardboard and there really to be a point of conflict to present the idea Edgar is really a bad guy when we know he's not. I would have liked to see many more volumes between volume 1 and 2. It all felt very rushed. While I liked what did happen and especially the riddle aspect, the pacing was off and the story was clearly written for the book book world and not the manga episodal world.
review 2: While this is an interesting look at British fairy tales and mermaids, it is also intriguing just because you want to know what Edgar's past was to make him the way he is. He doesn't act like a normal person in many situations although Raven is much less capable of behaving humanely. In truth, when I watched part of the anime, it was part of the reason I couldn't decide whether he was lying about being the Blue Knight Earl.In addition to the romantic tension between Lydia and Edgar, Ermine gets into a very compromising situation with Edgar that makes Lydia think they are together. This one has a little bit more violence with Raven killing at least one person, a hostage situation and some fight scenes. Also, someone makes a choice to let go and die rather than fight for his life. There is still no cursing mostly because it is written with a Victorian era feel. less

The earl is a very bad man, and considering this is a young teen shojo, that's pretty cool!

A awesome read! It gave me a couple of surprises, within most of the characters.
