review 1: I would like you to picture me sitting at the Library's Reference desk snorting over this book. It was so hilarious that I couldn't help it! Honest! I want to be Lacey's friend. And Samantha's. And Maya's. And Emmett's. And all of his buddies. Well, you get the idea. I especially loved how she ignores Wolverine (otherwise known as Monroe) until he needs to make friends with her. Seriously, it's like a pathological need. And how she decides to show her personal empowerment by skinny dipping & Monroe saves her from drowning herself! Too funny! Not for the faint of heart--lots of swearing & down & dirty sex. Oh & a hateful soon-to-be ex-husband & his ho. Outstanding!
review 2: When I picked this book up at the library last week, amongst my usual 5 books, I thought
... moreit would be the typical story of boy meets girl after girl finds her husband is cheating. It was all so simple so I checked it out and got to reading.Well I was right that it was the typical story of scorned woman finds happiness after her husband cheats on her. But there is so much more depth to the story than that. Its something of a romance novel because there isn't much to go on. A small Kentucky town and typical standards when you are a church going family. But throw in a gay brother, a mother who keeps up appearances but not matter what her children do, she will ripe your throat out if you say anything negative about them, and a lawyer turned friend who tells it like it is and always has a pint of ice cream and some vodka on hand. The characters that she built up to were ones that you would meet walking down to your local coffee shop. They were quirky in a heart warming way. Harper did an amazing job also making the audience see that, though both parties were wrong and wronged, I feel as though I still left the book feeling a little love for her cheating husband.Lacey, the main character, is one that you can relate too and you can also judge slightly. She is a woman scorned so she takes matters into her own hands by way of a slanderous e-mail to all her husband's family, friends, and business associates. From there she goes into hiding. Enter hunky, ex-police officer neighbor.I was very excited about this book and I kept going and chugging along. I think there was a lot to hold me to this book while also not holding me down to the point where I couldn't function without my book.I liked it, and I thought the sex scenes were well done. I know that may sound silly, but just to be warned there are a few that are racy, but they still done very tastefully so I didn't go into a full blush during it. less
