review 1: Very clever and humorous novel that has a nice take on the Sherlock-Watson detective novel at the turn of last century - and if you weren't sure of that, the characterisation of Conan-Doyle is the hint. I particularly like that both characters bring something to discovering the murderer; the subversion of having two amateur male detectives to a professional male and, because of social conventions, a dilettante proto blue stocking woman.
