review 1: The word Dark does not even attempt to describe this novel. The author made it so believable that truer evil did not exist aside from The Estate. Joseph did create Hell and yes he ruled it with an insatiable iron fist. His ambition for greatness also was what drove him into utter depraved madness by losing what he wanted most of all. I won't give away spoilers but I loved Arianna's last words to Joseph. There were some beautiful parts in the book. I'm just glad I'd read Madeline Abducted first or my heart might not have known that if everything didn't turn out for the best that just means it is not the end of the story.
review 2: This is a very dark story and I am filled with such mixed emotions. It is not an HEA. Now I understand the reviews I have rea
... mored as this being the darkest book some have ever read. I actually read these stories out of order and I read Madeleine Abducted first, then Hope Restrained but, this book explains so much. I now have to go back and reread Madeleine so it will further explain this book. This book brought out true emotions and for that I am giving it 5 stars. less
