review 1: I really enjoy Myke Cole's Shadow Ops books. Take one part military fiction, add fantasy elements, throw in a dash of the X-men, and you get a fun series of books. One of the things I like about Myke is that he has had real world experience in the military, so his books portray the men, women and tactics in an authentic manner, even when they run head long into the fantastical.Oh, about Breach Zone. I liked this quite a bit because Myke invades Manhattan with a terrifically powerful horde of mythical creatures. I love New York City, but I also love seeing it trashed by aliens, zombies, or in this case, orcs and assorted supernatural creatures. I had a hard time putting this book down once I started it. I hope Myke continues to write more of these!

... moreiler alert! So far I liked this book the best out of the shadow ops series. I think it did a really good job of rounding out all the character development, and had a fastish paced plot that drew me in quite well. I would simply describe this book as well done. My only complaint that I can think of is that the story did not explain the fate of many characters. The most glaring being Simon Truelove! The book infers that he goes down in one of Grace's magic attacks along with many of his zombies. However, this is not confirmed. No one visually saw him go down, and no one seemed to care if he was actually dead. This bothered me the moment the text eluded to his death; he is one of the original umbra coven members and in this case was treated like cannon fodder. I want to know his fate; I liked Simon, and thought he deserved more character development. End rant. Other than that. Good read. This was very much Harlequin's story. I am not the biggest Harlequin fan, but I don't think that took away anything. Harlequin and Grace's story is entertaining and the way it is told in parallel with the events in New York was very well done. I am still hoping that a few other characters get more development, but it was clear that this was not their story. I think one challenge of a story of this scope is managing all the characters effectively, and I believe this is one mediocre aspect about this book. That is okay by me though. Awesome series so far, I am a fan. less

I would have liked a little more resolution for each of the main characters.
