review 1: Usually the second book in a series is the weakest but in this case it was my favorite of the three. That is despite having the "bad boy" trope which is not usually my favorite. I think the author developed Kaleb (starting in book 1) to the point that I could see beyond the surface. Plus, the heroine was a good girl but not a "good" girl if that makes sense. It kept if from devolving into cliche.I still like Michael so this book being my favorite had more to do with the growth I saw in the writing and the way the plot came together than any comparison between Kaleb and Michael. I'm not much of a "team" person when it comes to YA.
review 2: This one worked better for me than HOURGLASS, probably because I at least felt like I had an idea of what was happenin... moreg, even though everything was still shrouded in cryptic remarks and obscurity. I felt like I understood the world a little bit better, and that helped. I also liked Kaleb as a narrator, particularly seeing him through Lily's eyes (like, from the things she would say to him), as that helped me to see his good qualities, too. Having a firm (mostly) grounding in the world, now, I think I'm all set to really enjoy the final installment. less
