review 1: Interwoven stories of American Christians and Pakistani Muslims during several decades made this an interesting book that I enjoyed. The resolution of all the threads may be a bit optimistic and unrealistic, but it's nice to think they could be. I very much enjoyed the Pakistani characters and the insights into the history and beauty of Islam. The glossary of Arabic and Urdu words used in the book was very helpful.
review 2: I highly recommend this book because, not only was it entertaining, but I learned a lot about the Muslim culture. One of the things I liked best, is how the author lets you in on each character's perspective as she weaves a tale of family secrets, loss, misunderstandings and reunions. The story spans 4 generations and several Middle East
... moreern countries. There were many touching and memorable moments. When the book ended, I wanted more! Don't let the Arabic and Urdu words throw you, there's a glossary in the back. less
