review 1: Prekrasna, dirljiva, pametna, naprosto briljantna!
review 2: I love a book that ends with me in tears of emotion, rather than frustration! The intricacies of relationships within families and the tensions that arise from the similarities and differences between people we are related to really kept me going through this book to read it in one day. Not all families are this complicated, and some are complicated in other ways and I was confronted by it, in a way. I think the reader can draw much from these revelations and apply courage in their own familial situations.Drawing on historical background without giving it centre stage has been critiqued in the reviews, yet I found it completely relevant to treat these things in this way. Probably from personal experience of my own family backgrounds and the secrets/twists that took place with major national events playing bit parts. The history informs how families and society come to be, but does not dictate it so much that it must be treated, somehow, more seriously in a fictional rendition of family complications. There are plenty of works one can revert to for Partition history. The only criticism I have is the misgivings about the author holding onto that last secret for so long, as it compels the reader to flick back and reread sections that are ONLY clear in light of that secret. I'm not sure how that could have been resolved alternatively, but I felt, in hindsight that there was enough there to confuse in the first read that could have been held off from and narrated in hindsight, as other secrets were throughout the story. less

Quite predictable but very well -written for a debutant author.
