review 1: MoribitoII Guardian of the Darkness continues the story of Balsa the female warrior. She has returned home to clear the name of her foster father and becomes caught up in politics and ancient magic. Uehashi is a wonderful author and the illustrations are beautiful. This was a very quick and exciting read and I might have to tell more people to read both of them, once you start you won't be able to stop........action, adventure, intrigue and magic is there a better combination ever? ... moret the end of the book is often curtailed. For example, in a four day journey, the beginning in in great detail, then the four days are summed up in a sentence. A little jarring (though a relief not to experience the unessential days in total detail). This continues from that journey to the end of the book. I enjoyed the overall feel too much to ding it though. The story never treats the reader as stupid, and takes some often takes wonderful leaps of imagination and emotion that American authors rarely seem to take. less

Young adult fantasy, somewhat folkloric. Balsa decides to resolve her past.
