review 2: Blaze of Memory is the the seventh book in Nalini Singh’s captivating Psy Changeling World.We meet Dev, the leader of the Shine Corporation who is the head of the “forgotten”, a group of Psy that defected “Silence”.The Silence Protocol is a process by which Psy children are mentally programmed not to feel or acknowledge their emotions. It was implemented roughly a hundred years before the start of Slave to Sensation in a last ditch effort to save the race from widespread insanity which threatened to consume them.Over the years these “Psy” mated with Changeling, humans and other forgottens, which ended up creating a new species.Dev is tasked with keeping the Forgottens safe from violence and potential extermination from Psy forces who want nothing more than to exterminate them.But, one day a sick and dying Psy woman is dropped in front of his home igniting a primal urge to heal and protect her.But Katya is a kind of Trojan horse, an assassin sent in by the Psy to destroy the Shine organization from the inside out.Dev is torn by the love he’s developed for Katya and the love and responsibility he has to the Shine Organization.One of them will die.The GoodI like Nalini Singh’s writing. She has a great style that pulls you in and never lets you go. She is poetic in her writing without being flowery. I also enjoyed getting back into the Psy Changeling world. I’ve missed the Changeling and Psy. I missed the world and it felt good being back.The BadI didn’t like Dev or Katya.I just didn’t like them. They did nothing for me. There was nothing wrong with them. I just didn’t like them.Without an emotional attachment to the characters, I really didn’t care what happened. I read to the end just to see what would happen and to not be lost when I read book 8.All stemming from a lack of emotional connection, the climax was blah, the ending was like “whatever” and the sex was “eh”.I just didn’t care.VerdictWell written installment of the Psy Changeling Series by Nalini Singh without the raw passion and danger of a Changeling/Psy match-up. A nice visit back to the Psy Changeling world which felt like an intermission to the next book. less
