review 1: It's hard to classify this series. If you go to a bookstore (or perhaps a library), you'll find it under mystery novels. I suspect this is because of the title of the first volume in the series "Aunt Dimity's Death". There is nearly always something at least a little mysterious in the plot lines. However, except for Aunt Dimity, (who, despite her hand in every plot, is dead throughout the series) hardly anyone dies -- and I can't think of any murders. Although there are occasional romantic attachments, it most certainly does not fit under romance -- there is nary a sex scene in the whole lot of them nor even the implied sex scene, except the for occasional arrival of babies. Nor does it quite fit in the category of "chick lit": while the main character is a woman, t... morehere are plenty of sympathetic male characters and no central theme of women discovering themselves or quilting or baking or other so-called feminine arts. And I would not at all categorize it as science fiction or fantasy, despite the title character's deceased and not quite quiet state. Doesn't matter. They're all fun, some a bit better than others. This one, (about the 18th or 19th), one of the best.
review 2: Mysteries/detective stories appear to be one of the forms of fiction that I enjoy reading a lot of. I enjoy the mental puzzle of it, but I don't particular enjoy graphic depictions of violence (usually I just "deal" with those as part of the genre). I enjoyed this book which was a puzzle with historical basis, with the minimum of "graphic images". Well crafted and enjoyable, and morally uplifting, without being preachy. less

Really a 3.5-- plot points are somewhat obvious, but still charming. Thumbs up for good witches!
