review 1: SUMMARY: Lori Shepherd is bereft when she learns that her beloved neighbors, Ruth and Louise Pym, may be dying. Summoning her to their sickroom, the elderly sisters have a favor to ask: Will Lori find their long-lost brother, Aubrey, before death claims them? Despite her misgivings, Lori sets out for distant New Zealand-where Aubrey fled after being cast out of the family in disgrace. With the help of a charming kiwi bird and her otherworldly friend, Aunt Dimity, Lori tries to heal a family broken by deceit.REVIEW: I really like this cozy mystery series for several reasons. First, many of the stories take place in different parts of the world and Nancy Atherton does an excellent job of describing the scenery and places so you feel you are right there. This particular s... moretory takes place in New Zealand. Second, Lori and her family and the people of the town of Finch England are the quintessential small town England close-knit community. Finally, the use of Aunt Dimity as a sounding board for solving the mysteries is a "one-of-a-kind" assistant. The inclusion of the tidbits about the Lord of the Rings filming definitely added a nice touch. This book is a little different in that there is no murder or mayhem to solve but rather the mystery surrounds the elderly Pym sisters missing brother which leads Lori on a chase through New Zealand to locate a relative before the Pym sisters possible demise. The ending of the story will, I am sure, lead into the next book in the series as Lori's father in law is moving into the old Fairworth House and will need to renovate it. Once again a good overall cozy mystery.
review 2: As usual the story did not disappoint. Saying goodbye to well-loved characters was tempered by welcoming a new one. Lori's travels through New Zealand were an extra bonus. Her descriptions of the country were amazing. It is the size of Colorado but has a coastline longer than that of the contiguous 48 states. Mountains like Switzerland, tropics like Hawaii, in an English setting. Then back in Finch a funeral, the wedding of the century and Lori's father in law's decision to buy a derelict country house so he can live close to his family in England, all contributed to this delightful story. Time to start the next one! less
