review 1: I had an older elementary school girl recommend this book to me as a possible 2015 Newbery book. I enjoyed the book, but it does have a lot of characters that might be confusing for a younger reader. The book deals with a girl, her sister, and mom who move back to the mom's home town in between wandering. The girl hopes that they'll be able to break the family curse and finally find a place to call home.
review 2: Felicity Pickle loves to collects words. She sees them everywhere and just has to write them down in her little blue notebook. When she, her mom, and her sister move yet again, this time to Midnight Gulch, Tennessee, Felicity finds herself hoping that this time they will stay. As she makes friends Felicity learns of the magic that once was part ... moreof Midnight Gulch, hoping that maybe, just maybe, she can help find a way to bring it back again. In the process she collects some wonderful words which describe this book so well. Words like splendiferous, spindiddly, and factofabulous. With words like these, and a captivating tale, Natalie Lloyd has truly woven together a story worthy of consideration for the 2015 Newberry Medal. less
