review 1: At first I was disappointed that no one from Ishmael Wang's days on the Lois McKendrick would be with him in his new adventure. I liked all those people and Ish's interactions with them. That his romantic relationship with Bev puttered out didn't bother me so much because I never really thought he and Bev were a good pairing since he was more or less equally in love with Brille and Dianne and Alvarez. But then the longer I listened, the more the crew of the Billy grew on me.
review 2: Life is not peachy anymore. The series takes a pretty dark turn. Ishmael gets stuck with a pretty crap job since he isn't from a spacer family with a spot waiting for him in the family business. That means he isn't hanging with his usual cast anymore. He has to decide to go along
... morewith the situation or stand up to it, and standing up to it might actually get him killed. He's made it to the real world where his decisions matter because they will have consequences. It's still the written version of crack. It's not the highest quality high, but there's a certain urgency to it. less

More interesting and involved. Still not a thriller, but not meant to be.
