The Creature From My Closet
review 1: Robert Columbo Burnside is a twelve-year-old boy. He hates reading and cleaning, and is just beginning to like girls. His closet is full of failed science experiments, books his mother gave him, and whatever else he can fit inside. One day, a creature pops out. It seems to be a cross between Willy Wonka and Frankenstein's monster, so Rob decides to call it Wonkenstein, Wonk for short. Hilarity ensues. As Rob tries to deal with being in seventh grade, impress Janae, and hide Wonk, a series of misunderstandings lead up to him standing in front of the whole school, forced to read a dramatic poem. Somehow, everything works out. This book is definitely written for fans of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, which I am. I enjoyed it. It was pretty predictable, definitely geared more toward a y... moreounger audience, but a fun read. I really enjoyed the illustrations as well.Content Advisory: None, except a very large belch at one point.
review 2: Wonkenstein is like Diary of a Wimpy Kid for book nerds. In this very funny little novel Robert is suddenly visited by a creature from his closet, a Willy Wonda-Frankenstein's Monster hybrid that causes all kinds of trouble for Robert and his neighborhood. Filled with funny little doodles and illustrations, it sure to have upper elementary and middle school students chuckling, and might just prompt them to reach for some Roald Dahl or Mary Shelly. less
