review 1: Having read several of his books, I was interested in seeing how much of his style carried over into his short stories and was not disappointed. The same inventiveness, lyricism, intrigue, and a kind of hopeful misery are pervasive throughout. Several of the stories are obvious precedents to The Windup Girl. I'm now looking forward to his new book, The Doubt Factory, and understand he will have another out next year. Delicious!
review 2: Actually read this some time ago when my brother passed me a copy. The ideas are fantastic but, when reading a series of stories written over ten years - and reading them all together - it really struck me how similar they were. They all more or less deal with one or two things, over and over again.They deal with those things b

Bacigalupi has a wonderful way of sucking you into a horrible story with wonderful characters.

Solid collection of sci-fi short stories. Going to need something happy after this one though
