review 1: Great characters within the book, not bad of a story plot and lots of plot twists too! I was genuinely surprised by the plot twist. It's a plot twist, you're supposed to be surprised, you might argue, but I really didn't expect the story to have taken a different direction from what I had expected. This book has taught me to love and see what it's like to love another so deeply. It is really one of the books that stands out for me because the theme of feminism is strong and Paul Crilley is unafraid to spell it out plainly and I support that. Though I did spot wrong word usage and spelling errors, the plot and characters in the book rules them all. I really love the characters, they are all so loving and light-hearted. I love that it is steampunk and I really really enjoyed... more myself while reading this book. The names used is also nice and I think it's something worth praising. I hope he does continue to write more adventures starring Tweed and Nightingale. Five stars without a doubt.
review 2: I don't read a lot of steampunk. Not because I don't like it but because it's generally not as appealing to me as other types of fantasy novels. However, I am VERY happy that I picked this book up. It was fun without being silly, the action was nicely paced and kept pulling you along toward the end (without being overdone -- nothing is worse than overdone action!), the characters were engaging and kept my interest and I quite enjoyed the twist! I liked this book enough that I went straight out and bought the sequel as soon as I was finished (and I already have a too-read pile that has about 4 dozen books (or more!) in it!). Mystery, action, adventure, fantasy and steampunk all in one -- definitely worth checking out if you like any of those genres! less
