review 1: i believe that the authors purpose of writing this book was to tell young ones how jail really was and what you have to go through. in this story there was a little African american boy who got caught for a drug bust and was sent to jail, away from his family and friends.the theme of this book is to never think bad no matter what tough times you have to go through in life. always think positive about things and not to get aggravated about things when they get to you. the type of novel this book would be, in my opinion would be a fiction. even though some points in the book it actually felt like i was there and feeling the pain that he had to go through and what he had to do to get out of jail. its a lot harder than you think.there are also some other parts where i knew thi... mores book was fake because in this type of jail the inmates were able to get there GED where in real jails i don't think they can get there GED if they're still in jail. they were taken to different sprungs'for different behaviors. if the acted up they would go back to the main building. if they were better they would move up a sprung. there were a total of 3 sprungs.the writer was well educated, very smart, and also funny. i think he wrote this book to try to explain what its really like out in the world and what would happen if something bad happened to you, causing you to go to jail. this book taught be a lot. it taught me to be tough through thick and thin, the bad and the good. also told me that no matter what happens there will always be someone there for you to talk to and express you feelings, and telling you that everything will be good.
review 2: The book " Rikers High" is a book that I normally wouldn't read because its for boys I would think, but this book is so good . It's like a bad cold you can't get rid of . I say that because when you get a cold it's hard to get the cold to stop , like with the book you can't just stop on a page in the middle Of a chapter you have to finish the chapter . It's even hard to not read on to the next chapter to see what's going to happen next !!! "Rikers High" is a book I strongly recommend you to try !!! I never knew that jail life was as good a they say !! Martin was the luckiest guy !! He got straight after a few months in jail an a trip to the best thing in Rikers island . The high school . He actually got a second chance at education and getting his life straight back to the way it was in the pass. "Rikers High" wasn't easy you had to work for what was later own in life going to be yours . Martin ended up getting his Ged and that was the start for a good future from there !! less
