review 1: I loved this book! The book centers on the concept of "shenpa," which, as I understood it, means, discomfort. Chodren goes on to say how "shenpa" is the root of many of our problems, fears, and bad habits. When we accept our discomfort, however, we are able to transform into a more peaceful state. However, most of us are used to falling into the "drama," of life or turning to habits in order to cover the discomfort.I recommend this book to all!
review 2: This book was returned to the library with a special note: "excellent book." So I read it and strangely there was a very personal message for me about letting go of certain things. She calls it "Shenpa" and it involves our attachments and habits. How we are slaves to this Shenpa. But she tells us--in tru
... moree Buddhist fashion--how to overcome this through what she refers to as "maitri" or loving kindness toward all beings. As humans (especially westerners) we have these story lines that we feel we must follow at all costs. But really we don't have to do that. Basically...she says: breathe and relax. All of us and our problems are just little specks of dust in a vast universe. less
