review 1: This is one of my new favorite books. This was unexpected as Hamilton is a contemporary author who I have heard little about. Hamilton has great characters, solid Sci-fi ideas and is very detailed without getting tedious. I am shocked and annoyed that no book store within 30 minutes has the next book and now I am am getting impatient for the next book to come in the mail. I plan to read more Hamilton and also get all of my friends to read this.
review 2: I dunno....thing about PFH's Commonwealth universe is that it's all glitzy and high tech (which I love) but kind of feels like a Hollywood script fleshed out to be hard sci fi. Humans expand across the galaxy with colonial gall never facing ethical or moral boundaries, alien races are there like an ineffect
... moreual sidekick in a summer blockbuster or the hunkering blunt villain you know will have to be defeated, too many video game NPC type characters (Ozzie is a redeemer) and OH the suspended disbelief is as big as Dyson Alpha...the sex, what is it with the almost lewd vacuous sex that assaults you every 50 pages? PFH also manages to hover close to a near sexist dickishness when it comes to women. I'm still going to read the whole Void saga because he does well technically in keeping a narrative but yeesh....and what the hell is an African dress? less

The author's ideas have potential but the novel is so badly paced it is hard to get through.
Abi
Interesting take on post-sigularity humanity versus genetically expansionist alien species.

Good setting, decent characters, a bit too predictable and happy-ending.
loulibros
Really slow to start, but well worth it at the end.
