review 1: Thoroughly enjoyed this. Read both books back to back and I wasn't disappointed. I then went onto read the void trilogy which was set in the same universe. Again I wasn't disappointed. I decided to get into the commonwealth saga after having enjoyed the nights dawn trilogy. This doesn't have the fantasy aspect the nights dawn did but I have to say both are on par with each other. Escapism in its finest form. Great futuristic vision, technological advancements making my eyes bulge with jealousy. Couldn't put the book down and they left me wanting more.... Thankfully in the void trilogy there was more :)
review 2: This review is for the audiobook version. I agree with other reviewers who mention that Pandora's Star presents a tapestry of novellas, each with clea
... morer word pictures of people, places, and events. The action is often fast paced and you have to pay attention or someone will whip by and you will be left eating dust. There is a lot happening in the Commonwealth. It’s like listening to 400 episodes of a great podcast, all in one sitting. Two bratty physics geeks discover how to make a wormhole generator and open the stars to humanity. Life-extending rejuvenation makes everyone who can afford it virtually immortal. Billions of humans emigrate to other planets. An obscure cult, led by a brutal terrorist, warns of impending doom. One single-minded police investigator spends decades tracking down the cultist. Will she catch them, or become one? One of the physics geeks, now 350 years old and richer than God, goes Walkabout. And then there are the aliens…I kept wondering if I would want to be a citizen of that future. I think not. Too much immortality isn't a good thing - wealth and power concentrated and condensed into poisonous dynastic monoliths. It's a dizzying civilization, with an implacable enemy. The book ends abruptly. Clearly, Pandora's Star has reached the maximum page count for a tome-length novel. It's a wild ride and I'm looking forward to the second installment. less

Wasn't bad, but feels like it ends halfway through.
