review 1: I received this book for free on the kindle app because I didn't win the good reads giveaway but asked if i was still interested in a kindle version and to give it a honest rating. The kindle app is a new thing for me I like holding the book while reading. I like to read alot of fantasy and vampire book this author got me interested within the first chapter I took my time reading it even though I didn't want to so I could get a better feel for all the characters hope to read the second one soon :)
review 2: The start of a great fantasy series can’t wait to read more about the land of Marithia. I’m not a big Vampire fan but it works well in this type of setting.I like how the book strayed from the traditional cookie cutter style of linear story telling. Ther
... moree are times in the page breaks within a chapter that the POV changes to another character who is near or around the same area as another character, allowing us to see everything that is going on. Another plus was that this book was dark, usually the characters you love stick through a series, not here, anyone can die and nobody is safe. It’s no Red Wedding in shock value, but that may be because this is only the first book, Unfortunately the two coolest characters die. The locations were vivid and amazing, I want more of She'Ma'Ryn, so much available there I wish our hero would have spent more time there. It was exotic and has so much potential. The things I disliked about this book were the same as many other fantasy novels, not enough character description. What does Shindar look like? Is he even Human? Is he a Giant? The Queen and Princess were of Elven blood, but were their ears pointed? Were they Taller than normal humans? Also at times they would jump around too quickly, Like when Vartan first reached the Elf city once that chapter ends and we go to his friend who is with the healer he sees that Vartan is riding a Dragon to She'Ma'Ryn, yet I had no idea he even planned to leave the Elf city.Overall an amazing read, and I highly anticipate the next installment to the series. less
