review 1: An okay read if you want some very basic information about butterflies spread across some 250 pages. The author makes it clear this is not his typical topic, which is clear from his approach --- he spends more time talking about butterfly smuggling then the actually science of the creatures. This book was sort of like a drawn out newspaper story rather than a fluid novel. Nonfiction is often disappointing though.

... morehat, the book has no flair, no pizzaz, the author does not deliver. every paragraph, every chapter i was always waiting for something more.i don't like to call books boring, bc i think there is always something to be gleaned from every text, but this book is a little boring, the best chapters were six and seven, where he writes about how a famed butterfly smuggler was caught, and wildlife laws protecting endangered species. don't bother putting this your list. less
