review 1: I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish. The ending pleased me immensely. I was expecting a fairly standard Sunday afternoon thriller but this was much subtler and the main character more complex than the usual 'x happened in my childhood so now I do y'. It's no great literature by any means but if you have a hankering for a satisfying psychological type yarn this does the job very well.
review 2: Be prepared to get uncomfortably close to William Heming, the unhinged narrator of this novel, as he indulges in his unusual hobby. Of course, in his mind the stalking and unlawful entering is perfectly rational, and you may find yourself taking his side, hoping he'll get away with it. After all, he is well-mannered and respectable, at least when he's not
... moreplotting murder. I was amused and appalled in equal measure. I found the flashbacks to Heming's childhood especially chilling. Thankfully, there is no attempt to explain his derangement. A thrilling read, with the added bonus of teaching dog owners who don't pick up after their pets a valuable lesson. less
