review 1: Creepy, Creepy, Creepy..William Hemmings is a real estate agent who keeps all the keys to every house he has ever sold. He comes and goes as he pleases into people's houses, getting to know their habits and the minutiae of their life's. But soon someone is dead and as the reader finds out more and more about Mr. Hemmings, it becomes apparent that he must be involved somehow. The most interesting aspect of this novel was that I found Mr. Hemmings so creepy, yet I found myself rooting for his secrets to remain undiscovered. That's good writing!

... moretions. The author too often teases the reader by going back into Heming's past at moments of interest in the main story. This is a cheap trick because much of the backstory added nothing to the story. That said, there was some tension when the police were questioning him. The epilogue was somewhat unsatisfying and meeting Marrineau again unnecessary. Marrineau's trajectory is unlikely and that whole school flashback seems to exist only to get there. Having said all that, I didn't mind the book overall. less
