review 1: Page turning Tudor history told through the eyes of the women in Henry VIII's court. Once started I found these books hard to put down and got caught up in the gossip and intrigue of the Tudor court. Who's sleeping with who, who is trying to win favour and how, whose head is next on the block, and Henry's paranoia about threats to his power and ability to produce a male heir.Philippa Gregory has got a real knack for getting across lots of historical detail without making you feel like you are reading a text book. We've won a few pub quizzes with information picked up from these books! Really good summer reads.
review 2: All must reads for any person interested in history. England is our mother country and much of what we do and know came from this ancestry
... more. It is interesting and required we know and understand our genetics. Above all it is interesting to see the human side of these persons of history who shaped the destiny of England and much of Europe. And true, there are some fiction writings to fill in those unknown places of history but they are minor and almost automatic. It is so much fun to read of those locations then look them up on a search engine and see them, visually, for real. Wonderful reading, meaningful reading. less
