review 1: I found that as usual this book very well written in terms of character development and general plot given that there is not much solid information available about Margaret Pole. It really took me into what her life would have like been like. Phillipa's style of writing really brings the character to life as if it is happening in front of you as you read it. Quite a bit of research was done as well considering this kind of book needs to have the basic historical outline to be solid while highlighting the details. I really enjoyed the book. Worth reading. Considering that I am not a big fan of Philippa Gregory, this one impressed me.
review 2: I think this may be Gregory's best book yet - or maybe I'm just finally able to keep track of the enormous cast of chara
... morecters! I'm particularly impressed with her ability to go over the same material from a completely different point of view and make me really care about Margaret Pole, even though I also really liked Elizabeth Woodville and her mother Jacquetta. This book also really brought home just how cruel Henry VIII's reign became and the absolute tyranny of having your life truly depend on the whim of another human. I highly recommend it. less

What pathos in the ending!!! What a terrible story of betrayal, tyranny, and espionage. Wow!
