review 1: Grade: K-2Genre: Historical FictionAwards: noneThis book was full of witty moments that made me often giggle to myself. It's a sweet adventure about friendship and trust. I picked younger kids because it was not a difficult read and it was entertaining enough to keep their attention. I would use this in the classroom with an activity that had the students draw their own versions of characters next to a stage coach they would make from layers of construction paper glued on a blank one.
review 2: Emily Wiggins sets off on a stagecoach journey to her Aunt Hilda's house after the untimely death of her mother & her mother's rich employer. She has a blood uncle, Victor, who is mean & she doesn't want to end up with. Aunt Hilda has always been kind to her. Unfortun
... moreately, the Catchum Child-Catching Services are trying to track her down & send her to Uncle Victor. She meets an orphan boy on the way & he helps her navigate the wild west. But things get more complicated when they find out that Emily is set to inherit millions of dollars from her mother's rich employer. Now Uncle Victor will stop at nothing to get her. In the end, Emily is captured by Uncle Victor, but Aunt Hilda shows up with the judge, a lawyer & the sheriff, who run Victor out of town. Aunt Hilda is going to take in the orphan boy, too, so there will be a happy ending for everyone. A fun, adventure story through the old west. Good for younger readers. less
