review 1: I took a break between book 8 and this one so I could let my stress level return to normal before getting my stomach in knots again...Well, my anxiety had reached it's peak by the end of this one. Mat & Dougie seemed to get into their current hopeful position far too easily. Nikolai is arrogant, but not careless or stupid...What about the survellience cameras? That's just one of many questions burning through my mind...Book 10, you're next!
review 2: At the end of the 8th episode we were promised/informed that Matt "has done with underestimation of Petrovic" and Petrovic "always underestimated” Matt. I doubted. This episode shows I was right. Petrovic fully controls the situation: the arrangements for brothers meeting proved that Matt didn't play in Petrovi
... morec's league. The episode is so far from the real clif-hanger as it is possible and imaginable. The trap is so obvious, the whole situation is sewn with so thick threads that you must be one eye blind and short-sighted in the second to believe the brothers seized the opportunity and not to see Petrovic's machinations. They are microchiped, all doors were open, nobody in the whole house, no guards... They must learn (I've already pointed it out) that escape is impossible and the consequences are dire.... and they will. So far Douglas hurt Matt but didn't betray him like Matt has already done. It's high time for Douglas to repay the brother in the same currency and it's Petrovic's responsibility to make it happen in the next episode. The episode 10th promises the party with the real incest among other funny and enjoyable pastimes in which refine, cultured and highly respectable citizens (like Petrovic – how not to love him, he cares so much for the brothers) indulges themselves and their wives from time to time (to kill the boredom and few slaves). There are still 10 episodes ahead us so the interesting question is whether the 10th will hit the bottom or will the authors imagination rolls us down even lower?OK, enough with sarcasm.I read with the real distress the comments where readers preferred Douglas to stay with Petrovic rather than escape with brother. It means that Petrovic brainwashed not only the Caremichaels’s but some readers as well. Marisella, very appropriately, pointed out that CF “glorifies and eroticises as vile a practice as slavery” and it looks like it does it so effectively that some people accepts Petrovic’s twisted world view. It is sad and disturbing. I will never call Petrovic’s feelings (if he realy can feel anything) toward Douglas “love” or “some kind of love” or that “he cares in some way for him”. In my world pissing into your lover’s mouth, simply because you don’t bother to go to toilet, isn’t “some kind of love” but degradation and dehumanisation. Despite nice words, Douglas is only hole for Petrovic. PS. I bet the driver is Roger. So far every kind of hope was immediately shattered by the authors. Do you remember Matt’s thoughts just after Roger talked him out from suicide? Matt’s impression that Rogers feels something for him (how he came to this idea after how Roger behaved toward him in episode 3 will be always author’s sweet secret) was immediately destroyed in the next chapter where we learned the Roger is born nurturer and he always acts like this and toward everybody. Roger driving them to the party, thus destroying Matt’s hopes, would be in CF style. Petrovic already promised he would bring back the anger into Matt’s eyes. How to do it better than explaining the real role Roger played in his recovery? less
