review 1: I have read all but one of Rachel's book and the cover of this one seduced me big time - I just had to walk through that gate - This intriguing storyline had me hooked from the word "go" .... part of the book was set in my beloved Suffolk which Rachel describes beautifully and then to be set in 1953 at the time of the great flood/tidal surge plus it was the year I was born too .... was just the icing on the cake ... but the cherry on the top of that cake was to find she had used the good old name of "Catchpole" ... which means so much to me ...
review 2: This was probably Rachel's best book so far. I enjoyed the journey that we were taken on with the stories of Isobel and Emily. These similar women are living in different times and the story really shows how so
... morecieties views on women has changed so much. Isobel could be said to be a women ahead of her time but I guess it was like that for a lot of women at that time. I live in Suffolk and have heard stories of the 53 floods from older reflective a and friends and I thought the author captured this time really well - it must have been devastating for those who lived through it. I would recommend this book. less
