review 1: The Shifters series has really grabbed my attention. The story lines are great. However, I do agree with many other readers that are just as unhappy with all the extra detail that is added to the books as fillers. I understand that when writing/reading a series, you need to replay some information from previous books to help remind the readers what has happened prior (especially when there is a gap between books being published). However, it is way overdone in this series. I really do not want to be taken through the transformation of a werecat again. I got the message plenty of other times. I love the characters. Rachel has done a great job introducing the right number of characters to both love and hate. She's developed interesting personalities that are realistic. ... moreI would like the love triangle between Jace, Faythe, and Marc to get a little more twisted to enhance the reading. I do suspect it will happen since Faythe is still holding out on Marc. I do not agree with some other readers that dislike the direction of the series and thinks its irresponsible to have so much male dominated culture, in which Faythe comes out looking like an idiot girl with the decisions she makes. That is true to the culture we live in. We still live in this world of male dominance. In which women are suppose to allow men to protect and defend, while the women sit back to nurse and care for them. While reading the events that Faythe is forced to make decisions, I do not believe she is stupid and I know she has done what needed to be done. It is not always right, but it is what it is and she doesn't make apologies. She still holds true to her beliefs even standing up to the men in her world. It goes without saying that yes, there will be mistakes because the story would not be as good without making a little trouble. Rachel has done a fine job of depicting real world culture into this fantasy story.
review 2: I checked this book out from my local library. This story picks up shortly after Rogue, and I have to say, I feel the same frustration with Faythe and her failure to mature in her relationship(yeah, I get it, she wants to be independent-- big difference if your freedom also means you can't seem to make up your mind about anything). This was a good plot line through the book, but I think I'll skip Prey and go straight to Shift, as I have a fairly good idea where the next book is going, and I don;t want to have it dragged out. A great storyline, but seems stretched out sometimes. less
