review 1: I got this as part of #payitforward - reading and passing along a book.I liked this. I enjoyed Meyers second book "The Comfort of Lies" and this book reminded me that one of the reasons I so like her writing is because of the dialogue. She just gets it. She was able to create a relationship between Lulu and Merry that felt authentic, real, sometimes strained, but in the end so full of love and truth.I might have found that at times the story dragged slightly, but to be honest, the writing and dialogue was so strong that it didn't bother me.A little dark. A little depressing ... but so raw and honest. It was believable fiction.
review 2: The story is told from two points of view, Lula's and Merry's. Both girls were so similar that at times I got confused about w
... morehich sister I was listening to. The first half of the book was an enjoyable, fast read, telling of Lulu and Merry's early years after the murder of their mother. But then story dragged.I struggled with adult Lula and Merry. I didn't like them particularly, and felt no sympathy or compassion for them at all. As the years passed it was a case of same old, same old, with a husband and a couple of children thrown in for Lulla, and for Merry, numerous men, only discernible by the changing names. It's a well written, quick read, just not a great one. less

I was wowed by the authors ability to get inside these characters and flesh them out so well.
