review 1: After taking somewhat of a hiatus from Midkemia, I jumped back in and was not disappointed! This latest series from Raymond Feist has a feel that the world of Midkemia is about to go through the toughest challenge yet!! The new characters introduced are likeable and well developed. The old characters that have grown on you over the past few books are back! And Pug, what can I say about him....one of my favourite characters in all of fantasy. I was so immersed in the series that I finished this book and started the next and am almost halfway before I updated my status!!
review 2: This was my first book by Robert Feist and I can't say I was impressed. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. After seeing everyone else's reviews of Feist, I expected better. I wa
... mores hoping for some "A Song of Ice and Fire" quality but I got more Star Wars expanded universe quality... For instance, it took me awhile to even start to care for characters. I didn't like to start Martin until the last couple chapters of the books. I don't know why but it's hard to feel anything for the characters. I don't hate the bad guys and I don't love the good guys, which takes away from the story. Then there was the cheesiness of this book. I mean, I know I should expect some cheese but damn, this book was pretty bad. I wanted to gag at the big love scene. And finally, towards the end of the book is a death of a character... And it's bad. The dude gets shanked by a goblin and lives but then breaks his neck as he falls from his horse. AND it took place in a couple of paragraphs. It wasn't like this character was some random dude who had no role in the plot. He was a freaking duke!! It was just a terribly written and poorly thought out death scene. Overall, the story is pretty good and the characters are okay. If anything, I can say that the book was good enough to make me want to read the next one of the trilogy. less

I'm really angry that I wasted my time reading this. Fuck you, Feist. You suck.

Finishing a 300 page book and realising it's part of a saga... :'(

Feels like the whole book is a lead in to the next book.
