‘This Is How We Do It – one day in the lives of seven kids from around the world,’ by Matt Lamothe.

In today’s political climate, we are constantly being told how different we all are from each other. That’s why I was delighted to be sent this clever book which not only celebrates our differences but also points out how we are all the same.

This book was inspired by Matt Lamothe’s own experiences as he travelled around the world and provides a real insight into how people from different cultures live.

Following seven children as they go about their day-to-day lives it soon becomes very apparent that although their houses may look slightly different and they may enjoy playing different games, the pattern of their days are actually very similar.

With beautiful illustrations, this gorgeous book is the perfect way to introduce different cultures to young readers – you don’t need to be able to read the text, to understand and discuss what’s happening.

It was refreshing to see a children’s book which does not focus around Western culture.  Within its pages you will find children from Japan, Russia, Iran, Peru, Uganda, Italy and India. This is important as it reflects the world in which our children live.

A timely and cleverly conceived read.

Library Girl.
