Super Graphic: A Visual Guide to the Comic Book Universe
Author: Tim Leong
Release Date: July 2013
This book is a collection of charts, graphs and info graphics entirely related to comics. You can get through it in a few hours if you read everything though I can’t imagine everything in here would interest even the most hardcore comic fan (Mad Magazine, heroclix, Tintin, Sin City and Peanuts don’t have a ton of overlap in fandom).
I enjoyed the graphs I could learn something from, in particular family flow charts for Scrooge McDuck, population and geographical location of fictional cities, and length of survival for Walking Dead characters by issue (subsections by race and ethnicity).
Less interesting concepts were the ones just for humor (Gotham city police utility bills, Power Girl’s breast size, or what makes Spider-man popular). For what you get the price is probably too high, but it’s a nice coffee table or bathroom reader to page through.
