I bought this book at the New Romance festival back in September. I met the two authors and I wanted to get it signed. I’m glad I did, it was such a fast read !
Plot
The synopsis is quite simplistic : a workaholic young woman working for a beautiful and rich bastard.She hates him with her guts and he is cruel and mean to her. They feel attracted to each other and have a chaotic relationship based on sex. They end up falling in love. So the story isn’t original at all but this book did its job, it was really entertaining and such a fast read !
I have to be honest though : I started this book with low expectations, seeing it for what it was and not searching for my best read of the year. But I got surprised because I read it in almost one setting ! It’s very steamy and quite funny !
I think the characters are well written and the whole situation is realistic enough.
The downside is the lack of storytelling, of plot, apart from the romance.
I’m two seconds away from castrating you with my heel.
I enjoyed the dual POV. We get to understand that Bennett isn’t that much of a bastard. He still is far from being perfect though, he has his flaws.
I also enjoyed the characters, the main ones and the side characters, especially the Ryans.
I just found out that it was originally a Twilight fanfiction ! It’s the first a time I read a book without knowing it was a fanfiction haha !
Characters
- Chloe is different from your average main female character in this kind of books. She thinks of her career first. It’s her top priority. And banging your bastard of boss won’t help neither your credibility nor your career.
She is fierce and I loved how she talked back to Bennett. - Bennett isn’t a swoon-worthy character in my opinion. But he isn’t that bad neither. His POV is important to understand his behavior. He redeemed himself toward the end of the book, at least as far as I’m concerned !
I don’t want to walk out that door and lose what we found in this room.
Overall it was an enjoyable read, I just wish it had more storytelling instead of only focusing on Bennett/Chloe sex scenes.
That being said, I heard that this series gets better so I will probably keep on reading it !
It’s more a 3.5 stars but I read it in almost one setting so…

L’alternance de narrateurs, Bennett et Chloé, à chaque chapitre permet de mieux comprendre les ressorts psychologiques de cette passion dévorante qui compromet enjeux de carrière et priorités de l’entreprise.
Il s’agit du premier livre de la série Beautiful Bastard. J’ai eu l’occasion de rencontrer les deux auteures de cette série lors du Festival New Romance qui s’est tenu à Bandol en Septembre 2016. C’était donc l’occasion d’acheter le tome 1 de cette série et de découvrir leur plume.
J’ai commencé ce livre avec peu d’attentes : j’attendais une romance sexy et une lecture pas prise de tête. Sur ces deux points là, ce livre ne m’a absolument pas déçue ! J’ai été happée par ma lecture, je l’ai quasiment lu d’une traite !
Le seul point négatif c’est qu’il n’y a pas vraiment d’histoire. C’est principalement basé sur la relation de Bennett et Chloé mais du coup ça manque d’une intrigue un peu travaillée. En dehors de la romance, il n’y a pas grand chose. C’est néanmoins une bonne lecture, rapide et distrayante !
J’ai bien apprécié d’avoir le point de vue des deux protagonistes, j’ai trouvé le point de vue de Bennett important pour comprendre son comportement. Cela n’excuse en rien ses actions, mais on les comprend mieux !
J’ai également bien aimé les personnages. Que ce soit les personnages principaux ou les secondaires, notamment les Ryan. Je trouve cette famille très intéressante !
Personnages
- Chloé n’est pas aussi stéréotypée que ce que je pensais. Elle a fait de sa carrière une priorité. Alors quand elle se met à se taper son patron, elle a plutôt tendance à paniquer. Car elle sait que ça ne peut que nuire à sa carrière. Ce que j’ai beaucoup apprécié chez elle, c’est qu’elle ne se laisse pas faire, elle a du mordant !
- Bennett n’est pas vraiment le mec idéal. Grossier, cruel et j’en passe. Néanmoins, avoir son point de vue permet de comprendre que c’est principalement une façade !
Globalement j’ai beaucoup aimé cette lecture et je lirai probablement le reste de la série ! Surtout qu’apparemment la série s’améliore au fur et à mesure des tomes !
J’ai découvert récemment que c’était à la base une fanfiction de Twilight ! Je crois que c’est la première fois que je lis un livre sans savoir au préalable que c’est tiré d’une fanfiction !
