30 day song challenge, roots edition-Day 4

Browsing around Facebook, one often finds “challenges” that ask the user to post one thing (book title, song, picture) a day. I stumbled on this one and though it would be fun turn it into a little playlist. I’ll be posting a new song everyday, keep your eyes peeled.

Day 4: a song that reminds you of someone you’d rather forget.

I guess we all have family issues, right? Here are three of the leading voices of country music in their youth performing The Sweetest Gift. Composed in 1942 by James B. Coats, it was recorded by Ronstadt and Harris on the former’s album in 1975 and Dolly joined them a year later for the version on her TV Show, ten year before they actually released their widely successful Trio album (and its follow-up in 1999.)

Their harmonies are definitely up there in my list (yes, I have a list of “top harmonies” cause I’m such a nerd!)

Previously:

Day 1: a song you like with a color in the title.

Day 2: a song you like with a number in the title.

Day 3: a song that reminds you of summertime.
