There are god-level One Piece characters who are considered legends in the series. People, pirates or not, acknowledge them because of their strength, power, influence, and soft hearts. There are many characters in the anime series who are really strong, however. But only a few among these people with monstrous strengths have admirable hearts.

Gol D. Roger, also known as “Gold Roger,” is the current Pirate King. Although he already died in the series, the story continues still declaring him as the Pirate King. This is the reason why many are now exploring the New World to try their luck of becoming the next Pirate King, including the main character Monkey D. Luffy.
As far as the story is concerned, it was not stated if Roger was a devil fruit user, although he possessed a god-level strength. You won’t become the Pirate King if you’re a weakling, right? Despite his greatness, he was recognized by his crew and close friends as a good man. Some of his former crew who are still alive are constantly showing huge respect towards him, even if he’s already a dead man.
2. Edward Newgate aka “Whitebeard”
Edward Newgate was known as the only pirate in history closest to the Pirate King, in terms of strength. Newgate had an enormous number of crew under his command. He was especially known as the Captain of the Whitebeard Pirates and was strong with his “Gura Gura no Mi” (quake) devil fruit power.
Like the Pirate King, he was also recognized as one of the legends in the sea and was respected by his crew. However, his crew were the only ones who understood how he was as a person. He was a father to his entire fleet, and his subordinates call him “Father.” His death was, however, tragic when the whole Whitebeard crew stopped the execution of Portgas D. Ace, one of Whitebeard’s commanders and Roger’s biological son.
3. Shanks
Shanks, also known as the Red-Haired Yonko, is Luffy’s really close friend. He was one of the crew of the Pirate King and eventually made his own crew after Roger’s time ends. He is now one of the Yonkos in the New World, and he is making a lot of noise in the sea.
Although all Yonkos now have evil agenda, Shanks is different. He has his own good purpose to explore the vast sea without hurting others. Luffy would never forget how Shanks saved him from a sea monster, which was why Shanks lost his one arm. Shanks is not a devil fruit user, but his strength is unbelievable.
He is one of my favorite characters in the series.
