A French Combo: Beignets & Widowmaker

Good day everyone!

So, we are officially in the first week of December and I am really excited about celebrating Christmas this year. I am graduating, finally, on the 10th, and my degree is my gift to myself.

I decided to play Overwatch after my nephew put it on his Christmas list. I suffer from vertigo when playing first person games, so after putting it off for so long, I decided to give it a try.

I suck, right now, but that’s normal. I think I prefer to play with Widowmaker at the moment. She’s a French assassin, a sniper expert and I have taken to her character.

She is a defense character, who does whatever she needs to in order to eliminate her targets. She’s armed with a fully-automatic sniper rifle. Her abilities include: Widow’s Kiss, a scope aimed shot from a distance. Grappling Hook, which launches her to the location she aims it at, allowing her to evade or flank targets. Venom Mine, when triggered it explodes and delivers a poisonous gas to any enemy in the vicinity. Her ultimate, Infra-sight, allows her to see the heat signatures of her targets, through walls or objects for a limited amount of time. Her allies are also gifted with this sight.

It also helped that I had chosen to make beignets. It’s a treat that I make for special occasion to surprise my boyfriend and on 12/4 we celebrated our anniversary, our 8th year together.

This recipe is reliable and good. Beignets are well known to be a New Orleans classic and I have never had the pleasure of having it from there, but I think I’ve been able to make it pretty well. Miguel’s had it before, on a visit to the city with his parents and I can’t wait for our trip there.

While my experiences with the game was rough, making these were easy. I have really taken to making bread and using yeast and making the dough for this was fun and easy. I found that using the hook attachments for the mixer when the dough begins to get dense, that it saves me time and it stops me from making a mess of my hands when kneading the dough.

Some tips that I would point out is that if you’re going to use cookie cutters, roll out the dough as best as you can the first time, I had limited counter space because of my recording set up. When you first roll it out after the rise, it is such a good consistency to work with. Once you knead it back together again, it’s much harder and you can see that in the video, it has an elastic consistency.

Also think about how much you’ll need if you know you’re not going to use the other half. You can always cut the recipe in half.

Beignets are a French pastry, and since Widowmaker is French, it was a great combination. I found the recipe from Sugar and Charm off of Pinterest years ago and have kept it since.
