review 1: i found this book very slow paced and there were a bit too many names thrown around for my liking, I habe read Scandanavian books before but this is the first time tha names of places,streets,... seemed to annoy me. the historical background and the characters are not developped and there is way too much imformation about chess. All in all, I had much higher expectations of this book and was quite diasppointed by it.
review 2: in questo nuovo romanzo, indridason abbandona ancora una volta il malinconico erlendur per tornare indietro nel tempo e scegliere come protagonista il suo capo (più volte citato nei primi libri), marion briem. cambia anche il genere- dal giallo alla spy story- perché questo libro, ambientato nella reykjavik del 1972, in pieno fermento p... moreer la sfida scacchistica tra fischer e spasskij, comincia sì con un delitto ma vira verso altro assai presto. la narrazione è intervallata con il racconto della vita del protagonista (che, misteriosamente, nella traduzione diviene uomo- mentre prima se ne parlava al femminile) e, mentre abbondano racconti drammatici sulla vita in sanatorio, in qualche modo manca l'elemento "sociale" che tanto avevo apprezzato. peccato, perché mi sembra che indridason- nelle ultime prove- pur costruendo abilmente la storia, abbia perso un po' di smalto e non riesca più a riprodurre quelle atmosfere cupe e particolari che tanto avevo apprezzato less
