Tiffins at Animal Kingdom is the first signature dining restaurant for the park and in my personal opinion, they hit it out of the park. This dining experience was well rounded, an explosion of taste and visual delight and the flavors were unique. If you prefer Casey’s Corner and chicken nuggets to Disney fine dining, this may be a restaurant that you want to steer clear of. The flavors are developed, sometimes intense and incredibly unique in some instances.
The restaurant is impeccably themed especially for disnerds. Themed after the ideas of the imagineers who created Animal Kingdom, each room is different and provides great visuals and ambiance.
We dined at Tiffins on our most recent trip and we were on the Deluxe Disney Dining Plan so my husband and I both got an appetizer, entree and dessert. We each got different things all the way around so we were able to try a wide variety.
For an appetizer, I had the selection of artisanal cheeses which varies depending on what the chef orders in but each of my cheeses and its accoutrements were well paired and I ate every bit of my plate. I will say, I get cheese plates at a lot of different places, Disney and non-Disney and this was one of the best I have ever had.
My favorite part was this passionfruit (of course) gelee that came with the plate. In fact, at the end of our meal, our server brought me a plate of it because I raved about it so much!
My husband got the Chef’s housemade charcuterie board and he really enjoyed that too! We switched little bits of our plates so that we could mix and match and that worked out well too.
For an entree I ordered the grilled swordfish and it was excellent. I love swordfish and this one was meaty and delicious. I will say that if you are iffy on spice go ahead and ask them to go light on the spice blend because it’s a hot one. It has a big kick to it. But the flavor was off the charts. The mushrooms (white long things on the plate) were a great accent and the and the coconut curry sauce was a fantastic off-set to the spice.
Hubby got the wagyu striploin and house-smoked brisket and he loved both selections but the brisket was literally melt in your mouth. Neither needed a knife, they were buttery and full of flavor and the purple potatoes were a hearty side.
For dessert, I selected the passionfruit tapioca creme because if ever there is a menu item with passionfruit in it, I will be ordering it. If you are a texture person and you don’t like tapioca, don’t order this but if you are ok with it or are adventurous go for it because it is incredible! Light and fluffy with a great tang to it and a balance of sweet. It was really tasty.
Hubby ordered the chocolate ganache and although he wasn’t disappointed in it, it was lack luster. Compared to the amazing flavors we had until this, it was just bland, it was a block of chocolate. Nothing to complain about but certainly nothing to write home about.
That’s it for this post! Have you dined at Tiffins? What did you think, we would love to hear from you! We’ll see ya’ real soon Disney family and for the love of the mouse, never forget, that it all started with a mouse.
