I love it when you get more from a book than expected and thats what I experienced with this book.
It’s weird, I was very sceptical about picking this up. As some of you may know I wasn’t impressed with Billy and me when I read it last year (full review here). After all that hype I just found Sophie annoying and childish. This is why it took me a longer time to pick this book up, considering I actually purchased it before Billy and Me!
Yet as I have been reading a lot of physiological thrillers I needed a book which could help mix it up a bit. As much as I love those types of books, sometimes you need a break from it and so in steps a chick flick!
So that’s a little tale of how and why I picked this up. I’m glad I did as I ended up enjoying it more than Billy and Me.
The Plot:
As the sequel to Billy and Me, Always with Love is still following the life of the two newly lovebirds. Having declared a break from Acting Billy and Sophie have fallen into a nice rhythm in the small town Rosefont Hill, where Sophie grew up. We are re-joined with Billy and Sophie just after Christmas where Sophie surprises Billy with tickets to go see his family over new years. However heading back to LA for Billy has reawakened his desire to act. So we follow the tale of a long distance relationship, an ever hard one trying to blossom miles apart with a high demanding job.
Can their love stand the test of distance?
My Thoughts:
I found it easy to relate to this book and maybe that’s the reason I enjoyed it more than Billy and Me. You see I am in a long distance relationship, don’t get me wrong nothing as drastic as Sophie and Billy, (Los Angeles to London) but far enough and in principle it’s all the same. It’s hard. Very hard. It’s hard to be away from the person you love for a long period of time, but it builds you as a couple and I wouldn’t change being in my relationship for anything. Like I say though, no where near as drastic as Sophie and Billy who go through very tough times and being an actor can’t help things so this time round I can completely see where she comes from (give or take). If you have read the book I am sure you know what I am referring to!
I enjoyed this book also because of its ease. There was no struggle in reading it and I found myself getting through a number of pages at a time. It was easy to pick up at lunch, on a plane, in bed and also on the sofa. Basically what I’m saying is you could read it at any time and find yourself emerged in the life of Billy and Sophie wanting to know what’s going to happen next.
Don’t get me wrong though, I rolled my eyes a fair bit through book and young Sophie is slightly nieve. But that is part of the book and it helped the easy reading. So I am not complaining.
Maybe some aspects didn’t need to be talked about. For instance when Sophie thinks and overthinks information, it’s just random thoughts and maybe I could have done without hearing those.
That said I 100% understand why they are there and why Giovanna wrote them in. She wanted us to gain an image of Sophie and that we did. After all she’s just a simple girl chasing the love of her life and aren’t we all doing that?
So in case you haven’t guessed, I enjoyed this book, it made me laugh and cry and I would recommend it to people after an easy read. Also I think you could technically get away without reading Billy and Me first, yes you wouldn’t get the whole picture, but it’s possible as she does repeat some bits which happen (on purpose) and I like that. So yes the perfect holiday read in my eyes!
Have you read Always with Love? I would love to know your thoughts!
Until next time!
George.
