GOODREADS BLURB

The end of an Empire, The rise of a Queen

Emory Fae enjoys leading a quiet, normal life. That is until two mysterious, and handsome soldiers show up at her apartment, and the life she knew is instantly whisked away. Memphis Carter and Brokk Foster come from the magical and war ridden world of Kiero, and upon Emory’s arrival she will discover she is the long lost heir to the Royal Line and is thrown into the Black Dawn Rebellion with a dynamic role to ignite the rebels and reclaim her throne.

With both men being darkly woven in her past Emory uncovers hidden secrets, a power held long dormant, and will soon realize there are worse things than supernatural humans, love, loss, betrayal, and a Mad King.

Some things are better left in the shadows.

MY REVIEW

I received an e-ARC of Black Dawn from NetGalley and the publishers in exchange for an honest review.

I really expected to enjoy this book. I’ve been in a mood to read a good YA for a really long time and this one had all the makings for it. Beautiful cover, intriguing title and a world at war right in the synopsis! Just look at the cover really –

I think that’s just about where the love ended for me. The book had decent characters but it had zero world building! I had absolutely no clue what was going on and it took me so long to piece it together. There was no explanation as to why there was a war, the origins of Emory and why she went away, or even where the others came from. I tried checking if maybe it was part of a series and that I might’ve missed a book but it seems to be the only one.

As far as the characters go, I liked Brokk and Nyx. Emory herself was just about okay and I couldn’t stand Memphis. I skim read through the entire ending and was on the verge of DNF’ing it a ton of times but I presumed it would get better soon. The plot could actually have been good with all the twists and turns but the book DEFINITELY needed more explanation.

And that’s all for today! Hope you have a great day! Until next time
