As a newbie to Christie Barth’s writings, this book certainly draws me in. If nothing else, her writing and the witty back and forth between the characters really entertain me! It is fun, touching and hawt to boot.
Bad for Her is the first book of Christi Barth’s new “Bad Boys Gone Good” series, that tells the stories of three brothers under WITSEC and try to build new life with new identities. The eldest of (now call themselves) Maguire brothers, Rafe grapples to settle down in Bandon, a small town in Oregon, when he stumbles upon Dr. Mollie Vickers and help her change her tire. It’s a flirtation that escalate into full blown affair. And before long, they plunge into what’s neither of them bargain for.
Rafe and Mollie certainly have chemistry going between them; their affair is scorching. Doesn’t matter the place they happen to be – roadside, woods, laundry room, whatever! – these two would put the place to good use. But more than that, what draw me to the story was the characters themselves. Both got chips on their shoulders and it’s their internal struggle of come clean to themselves and really see the other clearly – and understand them – that made it more interesting. Especially on the Maguire’s side, as there’s quite a list Rafe have to settle among his siblings.There’s an added problem – which at first had me suspecting one of the character’s good friend – of blackmailing. I thought it would give some sort of “danger vibe” to the story. Alas, it doesn’t turn into what I expected.
Still, overall Bad for Her is an enjoyable read and a really nice introduction to the author’s works for me. For sure I’ll be following this series and looking forward to the other Maguire’s books. In the mean time, I shall check-out Ms. Barth’s backlist titles and catching up!
